Canoeing and Wine Tasting in France. Explore castles, cliffs, prehistoric caves and châteaux in the southwest of France. This easy paddle will include beautiful hikes, overnight stays in lodges, and tasty local French meals with amazing wines. Our journey will take us through cute, cobblestoned villages, overhanging limestone cliffs, and ancient carvings designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our travels will be primarily be by canoe on the Dordogne River. Each day our luggage and gear will be transported via private van to our next nights lodging.

• All lodging is included and we will be spending all of our nights on a warm comfortable bed. When possible, we will be sleeping in French châteaux or B&Bs;. A tasty continental breakfast will greet you in the morning and most lunches will take place on the water with wonderful French bread, cheeses, meats fruits, and other tasty fare. The region we are traveling through is known for its rustic, traditional, and tasty food and our dinner.

Day 1:
We will personally meet everyone in Seauliaet and transport via our private van to Beaulieu check in to our Hotel, Les Flots Bleus.

Day 2:
After a hotel breakfast we will walk and discover the town of Beaulieu. Lunch will be riverside at Canoe Safaraid. Afterward we will load our canoes, get a little instruction, then begin paddling the Dordgone downstream. (12 miles) Take out at Carennac Hotel at La Fuego.

Day 3:
Walking tour of the cave at Gouffre de Padirac. Lunch at our launch site, Cavernac Park. Paddle the 10 miles to St. Sozy. Dinner and lodging at Meyronne or La Terrace.

Day 4:
After an amazing breakfast we will tour the famous pilgrimage town of Rocamadour, part of the Marian Cult, where 8 chapels form a remarkable sanctuary that has been dedicated to the Black Virgin from the middle ages. When you enter the midevil town through the Porte du Figuier, the Pilgrim’s staircase leads you via the Rue la Mercerie and Place des Senhals to the sanctuaries. Le Chemin de Croix, a windingpath marked with the Stations of the Cross, takes you up to the castle. Generous and smiling as they say here, from the unspoiled limestone plateau to the green and blue valleys, picturesque villages and charming secret passages, for most this is the first unforgettable day with more to follow. Lunch will be riverside then a wonderful 11 mile float down to Souillac. Our hotel is located by the Eglise Saint-Martin, a deconsecrated church that now houses the tourist office and several art exhibitions.

Day 5:
Our paddling will end at St. Julien, where we will enjoy a riverside picnic lunch, then drive to the ancient town of Sarlat. Sarlat is best known for its winding narrow streets lined with medieval and renaissance houses, amazing truffles, the absolute best farmers market, and fois gras. Some of the towns highlights include the Place de la liberte’; the absolute center of town with its famous 16th and 18th century homes, the Maison de la Boe’tie, Lanterne des Morts, and the Cathedrale Saint-Sacerdos.

Day 6:
This is market day in town. Roads close and fill with local vendors, farmers, and chefs. Enjoy your day finding the perfect gifts for home and the freshest French foods available. Once you’ve found the perfect lunch from a vendor walk to the Place aux Oies and picnic where the center of the fowl market used to take place. The bronze statues of geese will greet you. In adittion, 2 excellent examples of Renaissance buildings are also located here. The turreted Hotel de Vassal and the Hotel Chassaing. We will again stay the night in the Renaissance B&B.

Day 7:
Back on the river at St. Julien stopping for a riverside picnic near Vitrac. In the early evening will drive to Lascaux to admire the petroglyphs deep within a cave then back to our hotel in Sarlat.

Day 8:
Pick up where we left of near Vitrac and paddle to Beynac for a tour of Castelnaud and lunch. The evening will be spent in Bergerac staying at a local vineyard.

Day 9:
Enjoy a morning touring the vineyard and learning the traditional French methods of wine craft. We will enjoy a lunch with wine pairing before heading out to our final destination, Bordeaux.
